Life is like a library owned by the author.
In it are a few books which he wrote himself,
but most of them were written for him.
Harry Emerson Fosdick

I love books. No, I really love books. But now I have to figure out how to organize them. I wonder if I'm the only intelligent bibliophile that can never, ever find anything in the public library? I just don't get their system.

I've recently put all of my own books on shelves. They are fresh out of boxes in a hap hazard manner. So I need a system that works for me.

I think I'm going to try to alphabetize by title, because I rarely remember the author's name. I also think I will break them down into sections that make sense to me.

Reference (dictionaries, home improvement, Public Relations for Dummies)
Religion/Speculation (standard religious texts as well as books leaning more towards New Age because New Age books tend to reference religious texts)
Fairy Tales (simply because I have so many because I actively collect them)

Yeah, this system might look strange to some people, but I'm pretty sure it will help me out.

Have you got a bookshelf? How are they arranged? What worked for you?

Re: Funny, I was just talking about this yesterday

HA! I didn't even think of High Fidelity but it fits.

I went to Home Depot and bought 8' long pine boards and skinny cinder blocks to make "temporary" shelves for the next year before the move. I have them all along one wall in my dining room.
